FAQ: Wedding Photographer Chris James
How long have you been photographing weddings?
I have been photographing weddings, portraits, and events for 8 years (since 2014).
What is your style?
Everyone has their own style and preferences. Personally, I favor a blend of photojournalistic/documentary and fine art wedding photography, but I am comfortable and capable of working with whatever requests a couple has. Being a sentimental type of person, I tend to capture small details that many wouldn’t notice. I understand how much time and effort went into planning your big day, and I want to make sure that every aspect of it has been preserved in photographs.
Are you vaccinated against COVID-19?
Yes. Fully vaccinated, including boosters.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Over the years, I have used a wide variety of camera systems, starting with Canon. For a while, I switched over to the Sony mirrorless system, which I loved for landscape photography, but the colors just weren't right for portraiture.
I'm currently using full-frame Canon bodies and an assortment of lenses to handle almost any job, including lenses for Canon's L series and Sigma's Art series.

Family & Home
I currently live in North Providence, RI with my wife Hollie and our children. It's a nice, central location close to the highways (always important when you need to travel to the next event).
Photography Business Name
I'm often asked "Why Chris James?" Well, James is my middle name. My last name is one of those lovely French names that nobody can spell or pronounce (Thibeault) so I just try to make it easier for everyone.
Education
I grew up in Woonsocket, and attended Woonsocket High School (class of '98, "Go Novans!") and started off at the Community College of Rhode Island. My first major was music. I eventually completed two Bachelors degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Master's degree in Computer Science. I'm currently in the process of completing my Ph.D.
Music
Much of my life revolves around music, both performing and listening. I actually play quite a few instruments (guitar, piano, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, etc.) and I like to sing (but promise I won't break out into song at your wedding lol). I also love photographing concerts. It's technically very challenging, but it also captures some great memories.
Family History
One of my other time-consuming hobbies is genealogy. I've been working on documenting my family history for almost 20 years now. As part of this, I've become the unofficial family historian and custodian of many of our old photographs. It is where I first became interested in photo restoration (a service that I will soon be offering here).
